  • AT GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
With "Between the Covers: The Book Babes' Guide to a Woman's Reading Pleasures," published by Da Capo Press last fall, into its second printing, The Book Babes are still receiving invitations to speak (See Ellen's post "Learning Curve"). Here, they look back on some of their road trips.

Nancy Pate

Hi Ellen and Margo -- Just letting you know that I keep reading -- y'all and books. This blogging thing takes more time than I realized, especially since I'm no longer a speed demon. Ah, so many books, as we say -- and you just reminded me of a few more I want to reread. Bobbie Ann Mason's Elvis is a winner.
Best, Nancy

Good post, I like to leave comments because it allows bloggers to become more engaged and for the opportunity to perhaps learn from each other.

“Property,” by Valerie Martin seems to be right up my alley. How horrible to be married to someone that treats you like a possession and without respect. Likewise, for the servant.

It may be interesting to read a novel about the slave owner traveling through time to our present time and the evolution of his thinking and feeling about how women should be treated.

Margo's Pick

  • Josh Bazell: Beat the Reaper: A Novel

Josh Bazell: Beat the Reaper: A Novel
Bazell worked in a hospital, which explains all his medical knowledge, but how does he know so much about the mob and how did he get so funny? This novel is hilarious.

Ellen's Pick

  • Jessica Francis Kane: THE REPORT
Kudos to Kane for this novel based on a real tragedy, when 173 Brits were crushed to death while seeking shelter from an air raid during WWII. She reimagines the event through the investigation that followed and the man who handled it, offering food for thought on unintended consequences and how officials can and do recalibrate the evidence. The book is a Barnes & Noble Discover New Writers pick.
